October 2013 Citrus Lane (9 mos) Box Review

Kiddism of the Day: "I like the color Violent Purple!"

I have been so excited to receive my first Citrus Lane box. I had some coupon codes so I went ahead and purchased one for my 9 month old daughter and 6 year old son. These subscription-based surprise care packages seemed like a novel idea, but of course I did a little research online on previous care packages before I went ahead and ordered them for the young in's. They boasted award-winning children's books, organic snacks, green toys and more from various brands. Click here to try it out and get $10 off your first box!

Today, I came home to a cute little brown and pink box sitting on the front porch:

Under the lid of the box read this health PSA:

Opened up to these pretty little items:

A better look at my 9 month old daughter's care package:

To break it down, I received the following:

(Retail ~$9)
Cute little foam bathtub toys that stick on bathtub tiles and float in water. :) My 6 year old son LOVED these and ripped them right out of the box and spent the next 45 minutes in the bathtub. I never knew these existed and even if I did, I probably would not have given them a chance. Glad these came in my box!

(Retail: ~$11.31 for 3 Months)
I've never been too keen on digital books for kids/magazines, let alone a 9 month old. Digital reading material would have made sense for my son, but to me, babies should get to hold and play with books. I wasn't the least bit impressed by this item. :(

(Retail: ~$0.60)
My kids both LOVED this. It was devoured within minutes. I wish more came in the box! This is one item I may actually end up purchasing after Citrus Lane introduced them to me. I was hesitant about the choking hazard, since these were the first non-mushed food she's eaten, but she caught on quick and sucked on them until they dissolved. Bonus points for being organic!

(Retail: ~$12)
Hmmm, received this cute, yet annoying 12m+ gem of a toy for my 9 month old. She still bats her head with toys, so she's sticking to plush toys until she learns not to kill brain cells. In the meantime, my son is having a blast making my ears ring - literally. This was one thing I could have done without.

(Retail: ~$9)
Not sure if I'll be trying this one since eczema runs in the family. We are hardcore Aveeno diehards. This will probably end up at a coworker's baby shower. ;)

Overall, I must say I was fairly disappointed with my first Citrus Lane box. I thought it was worth what I paid (slightly over $12 with a coupon code), but definitely not the actual price of $25. The estimated retail value of my box rounds out to about $42, but considering I probably wouldn't want/buy more than half of these justifies it all - I guess. I do love the idea of exposure to items I normally wouldn't buy, but was hoping for things I've seen come in other boxes like hardcover books and Skip Hop stuff. Hopefully, my son's box (due for delivery in a couple of days) redeems Citrus Lane for me. ^_^
